On top of that, there are a considerable number of trade schools and bootcamp that offer fast-track entry to many fields.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Computer Science Degree Search has created its Best Computer Science Basic Certificate Schools in the Southeast Region ranking. This report analyzed 65 schools in the Southeast Region to see which ones offered the best basic certificate programs for computer science students. Factors related to overall quality of the school, post-graduation earnings, average student debt, and more accumulated were considered when coming up with this list.

Our analysis found University of Virginia - Main Campus to be the best school for computer science students who want to pursue a basic certificate in the Southeast Region .
Students from Virginia who attend University of Virginia full time pay an average of $19,785 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $54,438.
University of Virginia does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 100% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Out of the 65 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Wake Technical Community College landed the # 2 spot on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $2,768 in tuition and fees if they attend Wake Technical Community College full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $8,912.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at Wake Technical Community College. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 94% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
The excellent basic certificate programs at Chattahoochee Technical College helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best computer science schools in the Southeast Region .
In-state students pay an average of $3,202 in tuition and fees if they attend Chattahoochee Technical College full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $5,602.
Chattahoochee Technical College does offer online classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 65% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Jefferson Community and Technical College is a great place for computer science students working on their basic certificate.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Jefferson Community and Technical College is $4,568. Out-of-state students pay an average of $15,320.
Jefferson Community and Technical College does offer online classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 57% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
The excellent basic certificate programs at University of Richmond helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the best computer science schools in the Southeast Region .
Central Piedmont Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #6 on the list.
Students from North Carolina who attend Central Piedmont Community College full time pay an average of $2,792 in tuition and fees. Out-of-state students pay an average of $8,936.
Online courses are available at Central Piedmont Community College, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 100% took at least some of their classes online.
Gwinnett Technical College landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
Students from Georgia who attend GTC full time pay an average of $3,236 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $5,636.

With a ranking of #8, University of Georgia did quite well on this year’s best schools for computer science students working on their basic certificate.
In-state students pay an average of $12,068 in tuition and fees if they attend UGA full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $31,108.
UGA does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 15% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
American Public University System landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
The average tuition and fees at American Military University is $7,360. In-state students do not receive a discount, however you may be able to reduce your price if you receive financial aid.
Since American Military University is primarily an online school, it is an excellent choice for undergraduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Augusta Technical College came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best Computer Science Basic Certificate Schools in the Southeast Region ranking.
Full-time students from Georgia pay an average of $3,232 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Augusta Technical College. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $5,632.
One thing to take note of is that Augusta Technical College does offer online classes in some areas. In fact, around 66% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Nashville State Community College landed the #11 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
In-state students pay an average of $4,372 in tuition and fees if they attend Nashville State Community College full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $17,188.
You may have the opportunity to take online classes at Nashville State Community College. In fact, around 63% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Somerset Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #12 on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $4,488 in tuition and fees if they attend SCC full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $15,240.
Some students may be able to take online classes at SCC. During the 2019-2020 year, about 70% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
Hillsborough Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #13 on the list.
Students from Florida who attend HCC full time pay an average of $2,506 in tuition and fees. Out-of-state students pay an average of $9,111.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since HCC does offer online classes for certain majors. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 88% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College came in at #14 in this year’s edition of the Best Computer Science Basic Certificate Schools in the Southeast Region ranking.
Students from Arkansas who attend UA Pulaski Tech full time pay an average of $5,670 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $6,900.
One thing to take note of is that UA Pulaski Tech does offer online classes in some areas. In fact, around 69% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of Kentucky did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #15 on the list.

Valencia College landed the #16 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Valencia College is $2,474. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $9,383.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Valencia College does offer online classes for certain majors. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 96% took at least some of their classes online.
Augusta University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #17 on the list.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Augusta University is $9,022. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $24,400.

Rasmussen University - Florida ranked #18 on this year’s Best Computer Science Basic Certificate Schools in the Southeast Region list.
If you don’t receive financial aid, you can expect a bill for $13,635 to cover tuition and fees at Rasmussen University - Florida. The school does not offer an in-state discount.

Radford University landed the #19 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
Students from Virginia who attend Radford full time pay an average of $11,542 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $23,624.
Radford does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 87% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Bossier Parish Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #20 on the list.
Bossier Parish Community College does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $4,284. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid.
Since Bossier Parish Community College is primarily an online school, it is an excellent choice for undergraduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College came in at #21 in this year’s edition of the Best Computer Science Basic Certificate Schools in the Southeast Region ranking.
In-state students pay an average of $4,488 in tuition and fees if they attend SKYCTC full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $15,240.
Online courses are available at SKYCTC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 62% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.

With a ranking of #22, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College did quite well on this year’s best schools for computer science students working on their basic certificate.
In-state students pay an average of $2,626 in tuition and fees if they attend Rowan-Cabarrus Community College full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $8,770.
You may have the opportunity to take online classes at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. In fact, around 71% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Jefferson State Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #23 on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $4,920 in tuition and fees if they attend Jeff State full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $8,610.

Full-time students from Tennessee pay an average of $4,430 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Chattanooga State Community College. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $16,934.
One thing to take note of is that Chattanooga State Community College does offer online classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 95% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
