This report analyzed 64 schools in the Far Western US Region to see which ones offered the best value programs for compsci students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Bellevue College the best value school in the Far Western US Region for computer science students. Located in the city of Bellevue, BC is a public college with a large student population.

Out of the 64 schools in the Far Western US Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Seattle University landed the # 4 spot on the list. Seattle U is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in the city of Seattle.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Seattle U are $49,335 a year. CompSci majors at Seattle U take out an average of $25,444 in student loans while working on their egree.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means National University is a great value for computer science students. National University is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of La Jolla.

With a ranking of #6, California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo did quite well on this year’s best value schools for computer science students. Located in the small suburb of San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is a public school with a fairly large student population.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo undergraduate students pay an average of $28,105 in tuition and fees each year. The average amount in student loans that compsci majors at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo take out is $20,000. This translates to an average monthly loan payment of $464, based on a 10-year repayment plan.

University of California - Berkeley came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Computer Science Schools in the Far Western US Region ranking. Located in the midsize city of Berkeley, UC Berkeley is a public school with a fairly large student population.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at UC Berkeley are $43,980 a year. The average amount in student loans that compsci majors at UC Berkeley take out is $14,203. The average monthly payment of a loan this size is about $386, assuming that the borrower is on a 10-year repayment plan.

California State University - Channel Islands came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Computer Science Schools in the Far Western US Region ranking. Located in the suburb of Camarillo, CSUCI is a public school with a moderately-sized student population.
