This report analyzed 11 schools in the New England Region to see which ones offered the best basic certificate programs for computer science students. To come up with a school's ranking, we analyzed numerous factors related to post-graduation wages, the quality of education offered by the school, average accumulated student debt, and more.

Our analysis found Harvard University to be the best school for computer science students who want to pursue a basic certificate in the New England Region .
If you want to attend Harvard, expect to pay an average of $55,587 in tuition and fees. Of course, this could be reduced if you receive financial aid.
Online courses are available at Harvard, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 100% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Out of the 11 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Bunker Hill Community College landed the # 2 spot on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $5,280 in tuition and fees if they attend BHCC full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $10,224.
If you are interested in distance education, BHCC is an excellent choice, since the school is online.
The excellent basic certificate programs at NHTI-Concord’s Community College helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best computer science schools in the New England Region .
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at NHTI is $7,200. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $15,450.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at NHTI. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 78% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
The excellent basic certificate programs at Champlain College helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the best computer science schools in the New England Region .
Champlain does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $42,984. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid.
Online courses are available at Champlain, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In fact, around 46% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent basic certificate programs at Northern Essex Community College helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the best computer science schools in the New England Region .
Students from Massachusetts who attend NECC full time pay an average of $5,544 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $11,328.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since NECC does offer online classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 100% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #6, Mount Wachusett Community College did quite well on this year’s best schools for computer science students working on their basic certificate.
Students from Massachusetts who attend MWCC full time pay an average of $5,668 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $10,588.
MWCC does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 91% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of Massachusetts - Lowell landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
Full-time students from Massachusetts pay an average of $15,698 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend UMass Lowell. Out-of-state students pay an average of $33,624.
Some students may be able to take online classes at UMass Lowell. In 2019-2020 about 99% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Springfield Technical Community College landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
Students from Massachusetts who attend STCC full time pay an average of $5,520 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $10,728.
STCC does offer online classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 93% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Bristol Community College landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
In-state students pay an average of $5,208 in tuition and fees if they attend Bristol full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $10,152.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Bristol does offer online classes for certain majors. In fact, around 100% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of Maine at Augusta landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate computer science programs.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at UMA is $8,378. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $19,238.
One thing to take note of is that UMA does offer online classes in some areas. In fact, around 86% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #11, Quinsigamond Community College did quite well on this year’s best schools for computer science students working on their basic certificate.
In-state students pay an average of $5,830 in tuition and fees if they attend Quinsigamond Community College full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $10,774.
Quinsigamond Community College does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 35% took at least some of their classes online.
