Alternatively, you may choose a trade school or bootcamp that prepares you to enter the workforce with knowledge in a specific field.
To help you arm yourself with the information you need to make your decision, Computer Science Degree Search has developed this Best Computer Science Doctor's Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. This report analyzed 15 schools in the New England Region to see which ones offered the best doctor's degree programs for computer science students. To come up with a school's ranking, we analyzed numerous factors related to post-graduation wages, the quality of education offered by the school, average accumulated student debt, and more.

Our 2023 rankings named Brown University the best school in the New England Region for computer science students working on their doctor’s degree.
Brown does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 59% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list.

Out of the 15 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Dartmouth College landed the # 5 spot on the list.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Dartmouth. During the 2019-2020 year, about 57% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #6, Tufts University did quite well on this year’s best schools for computer science students working on their doctor’s degree.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Tufts. During the 2019-2020 year, about 88% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Northeastern University came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking.
Northeastern does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 29% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Boston University ranked #8 on this year’s Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list.
Boston U does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 23% took at least some of their classes online.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at WPI. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 37% took at least some of their classes online.
Brandeis University landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best doctor’s degree computer science programs.

University of New Hampshire - Main Campus came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking.
Online graduate courses are available at UNH, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 60% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
University of Massachusetts Amherst landed the #12 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best doctor’s degree computer science programs.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at UMass Amherst. In 2019-2020 about 82% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
University of Massachusetts - Lowell did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for computer science students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #13 on the list.
Online graduate courses are available at UMass Lowell, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 99% took at least some of their classes online.
University of Vermont ranked #14 on this year’s Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list.
UVM does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 24% took at least some of their classes online.
With a ranking of #15, University of Massachusetts - Boston did quite well on this year’s best schools for computer science students working on their doctor’s degree.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at UMass Boston. During the 2019-2020 year, about 100% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
