When it comes to higher education, there are a lot of options for computer science students. You can choose a traditional brick and mortar school, or with the growth of online education, you can attend a school half-way across the country without even leaving your house. Also there are many trade schools and bootcamps that offer short-term programs that open up more career options.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Computer Science Degree Search has created its Best Value Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. This report analyzed 12 schools in the New England Region to see which ones offered the best value associate degree programs for computer science students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Bunker Hill Community College the best value school in the New England Region for computer science students working on their associate degree. Boston, Massachusetts is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associate degrees to 122 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at BHCC are $10,224 a year. On average, associate degree students take out $11,991 in loans while pursuing their degree.
Interested in an online degree? Then you definitely want to check out BHCC. Every undergraduate student at the school took at least one class online.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, BHCC is ranked #2 for overall quality in the New England Region .
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Middlesex Community College. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Best Value Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Middlesex Community College is a public institution located in Bedford, Massachusetts. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 44 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at Middlesex Community College are $12,120 a year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $13,346 in student loans.

The school came in at #3 on this year’s Best Value Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Northern Essex Community College is a small public school located in Haverhill, Massachusetts that handed out 48 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at NECC are $11,328 a year. On average, associate degree students take out $15,610 in loans while pursuing their degree.
One thing to take note of is that NECC does offer online classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 100% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, NECC is ranked #4 for overall quality in the New England Region .
The excellent associate degree programs at Mount Wachusett Community College helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the best value computer science schools in the New England Region . MWCC is located in Gardner, Massachusetts and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 26 associate degrees to qualified students.
MWCC undergraduate students pay an average of $10,588 in tuition and fees each year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $12,274 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.

This small public school is located in Concord, New Hampshire, and it awarded 21 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at NHTI are $15,450 per year. On average, associate degree students take out $19,718 in loans while pursuing their degree.
NHTI does offer online classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 78% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, NHTI is ranked #3 for overall quality in the New England Region .
Southern Maine Community College ranked #6 on this year’s Best Value Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list. SMCC is a medium-sized public school situated in South Portland, Maine. It awarded 48 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at SMCC are $6,754 a year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $16,222 in student loans.
One thing to take note of is that SMCC does offer online classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 81% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Springfield Technical Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for computer science students to get an associate degree. It came in at #7 on the list. Springfield Technical Community College is a small public school located in Springfield, Massachusetts that handed out 46 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at STCC are $10,728 a year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $11,475 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
Online courses are available at STCC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 93% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Southern New Hampshire University came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. SNHU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Manchester, New Hampshire. The school has a large population, and it awarded 346 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
SNHU undergraduate students pay an average of $15,380 in tuition and fees each year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $22,352 in student loans.
Some students may be able to take online classes at SNHU. In 2019-2020 about 96% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #9, Community College of Rhode Island did quite well on this year’s best value schools for computer science students working on their associate degree. This fairly large public school is located in Warwick, Rhode Island, and it awarded 42 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at CCRI are $13,260 per year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $15,624 in student loans.
CCRI does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 95% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
New England Institute of Technology came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. This small private not-for-profit school is located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and it awarded 73 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at New England Tech are $32,807 per year. On average, associate degree students take out $19,275 in loans while pursuing their degree.
New England Tech does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 38% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
New England Tech also made our Best Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list, coming in at #5.
Champlain College landed the #11 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value associate degree computer science programs. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Burlington, Vermont, and it awarded 14 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Champlain are $42,984 per year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $25,481 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
One thing to take note of is that Champlain does offer online classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 46% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #12, Quinsigamond Community College did quite well on this year’s best value schools for computer science students working on their associate degree. Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the medium-sized public school awarded 66 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at Quinsigamond Community College are $10,774 a year. On average, associate degree students take out $20,343 in loans while pursuing their degree.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Quinsigamond Community College does offer online classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 35% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
