To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Computer Science Degree Search has created its Best Value Computer Science Doctor's Degree Schools in Texas ranking. This report analyzed 13 schools in Texas to see which ones offered the best value doctor's degree programs for computer science students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our analysis found The University of Texas at Austin to be the best value school for computer science students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in Texas. Located in Austin, Texas, the large public school awarded 40 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at UT Austin are $22,944 per year.
One thing to take note of is that UT Austin does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 66% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.

The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Texas Tech University helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the best value computer science schools in Texas. Located in Lubbock, Texas, the large public school awarded 10 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Texas Tech are $17,698 per year.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Texas Tech does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 49% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Texas Tech also took the #5 spot in our Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in Texas rankings.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at The University of Texas at El Paso helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best value computer science schools in Texas. UTEP is located in El Paso, Texas and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 7 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
UTEP graduate students pay an average of $16,621 in tuition and fees each year.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at UTEP. In fact, around 88% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Texas A&M University - College Station is a great place for computer science students working on their doctor’s degree who want the most bang for their educational buck. Texas A&M University - College Station is a large public school located in College Station, Texas that handed out 22 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Texas State University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in Texas ranking. This large public school is located in San Marcos, Texas, and it awarded 1 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Texas State are $17,220 per year.

The University of Texas at Dallas ranked #10 on this year’s Best Value Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in Texas list. UT Dallas is a public institution located in Richardson, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 18 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
