To help you arm yourself with the information you need to make your decision, Computer Science Degree Search has developed this Best Value Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region ranking. Our analysis looked at 11 schools in the New England Region to see which graduate certificate programs offered the best value experiences for computer science students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Norwich University the best value school in the New England Region for computer science students working on their graduate certificate. Northfield, Vermont is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out graduate certificates to 14 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Norwich are $21,914 a year.
Since the graduate programs at Norwich are primarily online, it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.
Norwich also made our Best Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region list, coming in at #2.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Champlain College. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Best Value Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region list. This large private not-for-profit school is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and it awarded 169 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Harvard graduate students pay an average of $52,170 in tuition and fees each year. On average, graduate certificate students take out $19,755 in loans while pursuing their degree.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Harvard. In fact, around 96% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, Harvard is ranked #1 for overall quality in the New England Region .
The excellent graduate certificate programs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the best value computer science schools in the New England Region . WPI is a private not-for-profit institution located in Worcester, Massachusetts. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 5 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at WPI are $29,040 per year.

With a ranking of #6, Tufts University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for computer science students working on their graduate certificate. This fairly large private not-for-profit school is located in Medford, Massachusetts, and it awarded 12 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Tufts are $55,216 a year.
One thing to take note of is that Tufts does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 88% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Tufts did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #3 on our Best Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region list.
With a ranking of #7, University of Massachusetts - Lowell did quite well on this year’s best value schools for computer science students working on their graduate certificate. UMass Lowell is a fairly large public school situated in Lowell, Massachusetts. It awarded 10 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at UMass Lowell are $26,990 a year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at UMass Lowell. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 99% took at least some of their classes online.
University of Maine ranked #7 on this year’s Best Value Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region list. University of Maine is a fairly large public school located in Orono, Maine that handed out 8 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at UMaine are $29,490 a year.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UMaine does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 74% took at least some of their classes online.
Brandeis University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for computer science students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #9 on the list. Located in Waltham, Massachusetts, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 1 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Brandeis are $53,618 a year.
One thing to take note of is that Brandeis does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 100% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Brandeis not only placed well in our value ranking, but it is also #4 on our Best Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region list.
University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for computer science students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #10 on the list. UMass Dartmouth is a public institution located in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 6 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
UMass Dartmouth graduate students pay an average of $30,153 in tuition and fees each year.
UMass Dartmouth does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 90% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
University of Southern Maine ranked #11 on this year’s Best Value Computer Science Graduate Certificate Schools in the New England Region list. University of Southern Maine is a medium-sized public school situated in Portland, Maine. It awarded 1 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at University of Southern Maine are $22,968 a year.
University of Southern Maine does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major.
