This report analyzed 36 schools in the Southwest Region to see which ones had the most popular online associate degree programs for computer science students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from schools with online programs.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Phoenix - Arizona the most popular school in the Southwest Region for computer science students working on their associate degree. This large private for-profit school is located in Tempe, Arizona, and it awarded 630 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Associate Degree recipients from UOPX - Arizona accumulate an average of $23,839 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 32% were women.
During the 2019-2020 year, about 100% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
The excellent associate degree programs at San Jacinto Community College helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular computer science schools in the Southwest Region . San Jacinto College is a large public school situated in Pasadena, Texas. It awarded 168 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $13,960 in student loans. Of those students who received their degree, 21% were women.

The excellent associate degree programs at Oklahoma City Community College helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular computer science schools in the Southwest Region . This fairly large public school is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and it awarded 84 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Students from Oklahoma who attend OCCC full time pay an average of $4,059 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $9,810. On average, associate degree students take out $14,583 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 29% of those degree recipients were women.
Since OCCC is primarily an online school, it is an excellent choice for undergraduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.

Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for computer science students to get an associate degree. It came in at #6 on the list. Located in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the small public school awarded 58 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2020-2021.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at OSU Institute of Technology is $5,774. Out-of-state students pay an average of $11,384. Associate Degree recipients from OSU Institute of Technology accumulate an average of $15,790 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 14% were women.
Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 90% took at least some of their classes online.

South Texas College landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular associate degree computer science programs. McAllen, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associate degrees to 85 students in 2020-2021.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at South Texas College is $4,530. Out-of-state students pay an average of $7,920. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $8,401 in student loans. Of those students who received their degree, 20% were women.
In 2019-2020 about 94% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
New Mexico State University - Dona Ana ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Online Computer Science Associate Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list. Las Cruces, New Mexico is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associate degrees to 31 students in 2020-2021.
In-state students pay an average of $2,160 in tuition and fees if they attend NMSU Dona Ana full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $5,664. Associate Degree recipients from NMSU Dona Ana accumulate an average of $16,687 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 16% of those degree recipients were women.
Around 86% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Cochise County Community College District landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular associate degree computer science programs. Cochise College is located in Sierra Vista, Arizona and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 53 associate degrees to qualified students.
By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $16,007 in student loans. Around 32% of those degree recipients were women.
Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 76% took at least some of their classes online.

OSU-OKC is primarily an online school, so it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.
