This report analyzed 40 schools in the Middle Atlantic Region to see which ones were the most popular doctor's degree programs for computer science students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Carnegie Mellon University the most popular school in the Middle Atlantic Region for computer science students working on their doctor’s degree. This fairly large private not-for-profit school is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and it awarded 74 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 16% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Carnegie Mellon. In fact, around 6% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Capitol Technology University helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular computer science schools in the Middle Atlantic Region . Capitol Tech is located in Laurel, Maryland and has a very small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 41 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 20% of those degree recipients were women.

You’ll be in good company if you attend Stony Brook University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Most Popular Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Stony Brook University is a large public school located in Stony Brook, New York that handed out 37 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 14% were women.

NJIT is located in Newark, New Jersey and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 21 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 38% were women.

University at Buffalo ranked #11 on this year’s Most Popular Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Buffalo, New York is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 18 students in 2020-2021.

University of Pennsylvania ranked #12 on this year’s Most Popular Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region list. This large private not-for-profit school is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and it awarded 17 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
