This report analyzed 18 schools in the New England Region to see which ones were the most popular doctor's degree programs for computer science students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found Massachusetts Institute of Technology to be the most popular school for computer science students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in the New England Region . Cambridge, Massachusetts is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 64 students in 2020-2021.
Around 19% of those degree recipients were women.
Interested in an online degree? Then you definitely want to check out MIT. Every graduate student at the school took at least one class online.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at University of Massachusetts Amherst helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular computer science schools in the New England Region . This large public school is located in Amherst, Massachusetts, and it awarded 16 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 44% were women.
UMass Amherst does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 82% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.

This large private not-for-profit school is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and it awarded 15 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Northeastern. In 2019-2020 about 29% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Harvard University. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Popular Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the large private not-for-profit school awarded 14 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 14% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Harvard does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 96% took at least some of their classes online.

One thing to take note of is that Boston U does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 23% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #10, Tufts University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for computer science students working on their doctor’s degree. Tufts is located in Medford, Massachusetts and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 7 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 14% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Tufts. During the 2019-2020 year, about 88% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute ranked #11 on this year’s Most Popular Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list. This medium-sized private not-for-profit school is located in Worcester, Massachusetts, and it awarded 6 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 50% of those degree recipients were women.
