This report analyzed 41 schools in the New England Region to see which ones offered the best value programs for compsci students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
When determining this ranking, we place a high emphasis on the school's quality as well as its sticker price. Even though a college may be affordable, it may not offer value. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Top 10 Best Computer Science Schools
Our analysis found Bunker Hill Community College to be the best value school for computer science students who want to pursue a degree in the New England Region . Located in the large city of Boston, BHCC is a public school with a moderately-sized student population.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at BHCC are $10,224 a year. After completing their degree, compsci graduates from BHCC carry an average student debtload of $7,452.

Out of the 41 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Springfield Technical Community College landed the # 3 spot on the list. STCC is a small public school located in the city of Springfield.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at STCC are $10,728 a year.
Out of the 41 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Fitchburg State University landed the # 4 spot on the list. Fitchburg State is a medium-sized public school located in the medium-sized suburb of Fitchburg.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Fitchburg State are $16,735 a year.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Southern New Hampshire University. The school came in at #5 on this year’s Best Value Computer Science Schools in the New England Region list. SNHU is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the midsize suburb of Manchester.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at SNHU are $15,380 a year. After completing their degree, compsci graduates from SNHU carry an average student debtload of $27,418.

Brown University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for computer science students. It came in at #6 on the list. Brown is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the medium-sized city of Providence.
Brown undergraduate students pay an average of $62,304 in tuition and fees each year. The average amount in student loans that compsci majors at Brown take out is $13,000.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for computer science students. It came in at #7 on the list. MIT is a large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Cambridge.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at MIT are $55,878 per year. After completing their degree, compsci graduates from MIT carry an average student debtload of $10,538. The average monthly payment of a loan this size is about $682, assuming that the borrower is on a 10-year repayment plan.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, MIT is ranked #2 for overall quality for compsci in the New England Region .

Harvard University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for computer science students. It came in at #8 on the list. Located in the city of Cambridge, Harvard is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.

Williams College landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value computer science programs. Williams is a small private not-for-profit school located in the fringe town of Williamstown.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Williams are $59,660 a year. After completing their degree, compsci graduates from Williams carry an average student debtload of $13,134.
Dartmouth College landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value computer science programs. Located in the town of Hanover, Dartmouth is a private not-for-profit school with a moderately-sized student population.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Dartmouth are $60,648 a year. The average amount in student loans that compsci majors at Dartmouth take out is $20,000.
